Abolishing Child Slavery

Child slavery is a serious issue...

What is child slavery? Child slavery is when children ages 1 to 16 work hard for 12 to 16 hours a day. They are being abused, beaten, and starved. They don't notice that they're being abused but they do feel the pain. They only get a few hours a day for rest. They are forced into slavery because they are so poor. These children do not get an education because they are working to earn money for food. Therefore, they have no chance of a future. So, what will happen to their children? They will most likely become child slaves, too.

There are ways you can stop it, or at least slow it down a bit. You can write a petition and get people to sign it. This increases awareness and increasing awareness makes others also try to help. Eventually, you could get almost a whole state or even almost a whole country helping to stop child slavery. Also, you can boycott products that use child slaves as their workers. Donating money to schools and anti-slavery organizations can make schools larger and can build new schools. Writing letters to companies that may use child slavery can make them aware so they can stop buying products from that certain company. Fair Trade products are products that do not use children as their workers so that is the safer stuff to buy.

What causes this issue? In some countries it's legal for kids to work. Some children get kidnapped. Some parents are too poor to afford their children so they sell them. They don't even know that their children are being put into the wrong hands. The people say that they're going to take good care of them but that's just a lie. They recieve the money, take the kids, and put them to work.

Poverty is the largest cause of child slavery. Child trafficking is when people come and take children out of their homes and put them to work. Sometimes the children have to fight in the army. Working in mines and handling chemicals are considered as the worst forms of child labor along with being soldiers. Some jobs are, begging and cleaning windows and cars in Italy and Greece, stitching soccer balls in Pakistan, carpet weaving in India, and cocoa harvesting in Africa.
